Interest Groups

Scotland-cover

Interest Groups are places where you can connect with other people at City On The Hill. These groups are informal, led by people of the COTH community. Some Interest Groups meet weekly and others just a few times a year. Click below to explore groups. You can email the contact person to get additional details and meeting times.

How can I start my own interest group? Great question! We have setup a special page to register your new group and get you started.

Does your heart love worship but your body doesn't know how? Have you ever wanted to try a new form of worship but didn't know where to start? Every 2nd Friday at 8pm (after corporate prayer), we will create a safe space for learning different styles and forms of worship. Every month we will focus on a different style/form such as: spontaneous singing, dance, drawing, painting, stepping, poetry, photography, etc. (think of various expressions of creativity.) We are looking for all ages and skill levels. Come join us as we learn the many ways we can worship the most Creative One in the universe! contact Chakel with questions.

For anyone who likes to worship with flags or dance, or you'd like to learn more about flags and dance ministry. We'll be looking at the scriptural basis for flags in the church and how they not only enhance worship, but are powerful in the realm of spiritual warfare. My vision for this group is to bring community and team building to this area of worship. We'll be learning how to make flags, which includes learning the scriptural meanings of colors so that we worship with passion and intent. I'd like for us to meet in local parks and open space areas to practice using flags and do a little 'covert' spiritual warfare, to declare the blessings of God over Boulder and surrounding areas.

COME MEET WITH US~ this Saturday, Sept. 26 at 10:00 am at City on the Hill for our first Flags and Dance Ministry Workshop! You'll be excited to learn the meaning and significance of flags and dance in the spiritual realm! Hope to see you there.

PLEASE CONTACT Donna Luehrs at Belle.West@icloud.com for more information.

Live Missionally
Grow in your understanding of God’s global mission and embrace your role by living a World Christian lifestyle.

Xplore is a 7 week study to help believers discover the biblical theme of God’s global purpose, the task remaining in frontier missions, major world religions, and how they can participate in God’s global purpose, no matter their location or vocation.

Xplore participants will discover:

1. God’s Word — Does the Bible have a common theme that ties it all together, or is it just a collection of great stories?
2. God’s World — Did you know there are more than 7 billion people on the planet today? Who are they? What do they believe? How is the church involved?
3. God’s Work — What is our purpose? How do we fit into God’s plan? Does one person really make a difference? How can we start?

During the 7-week course:

- You'll visit God's World and learn about people groups that have never been reached with the Gospel.
- You'll journey through God's Word and see His passion for His glory to be enjoyed by all peoples on earth.
- You'll focus on how to participate in God's Work by Praying, Sending, Welcoming, Going, and Mobilizing.
- You'll spend time in intercession for City on the Hill's missionaries each week

Requirements:

1. Commit to attending the group sessions
2. Commit to coming prepared – having done the weekly lessons
3. Commit to being on time.
4. Children are welcome to attend and participate but there will be no child care. Therefore, children must stay with the adult who brought them.

Reach the world for Christ through your writing!

Book writing for fun, hobby or profit. Be your idea Fiction or Non-Fiction, having people to talk to and to bounce ideas off of that share the common love of writing is a great help.

Don't have what it takes? Failed English all the way through school? God qualifies the called. If you feel God has called you to write, then write. There are Editors you can hire to polish your troubled writing. Don't let the enemy keep you from writing if you don't feel you have the skill necessary to do so. The trick is to "write!" Just write! Keep writing! Spend a little of every day writing!

Writing to reach the lost is not nearly as difficult as some Christians would make it. Follow the Holy Spirit and know that He knows how to reach your audience.

Questionable material that isn't "christian" isn't judged here. Lost people say lost things in your books, or do cruel or evil. How else does your character grow from a "lost" state to a "saved" state if they never do evil and are swell goody goodies from the beginning. Even your antagonists will do cruel things as they strive for "world domination." Of course no member is required to read your stuff, so keep that in mind when presenting "questionable" material. Be prepared to keep an open mind as other people's heroes go through difficulties (theirs or the worlds) to save souls.

Bring any questions / material of works in progress to a meeting for discussion with group members. Such as:

* A story idea
* An Outline
* A Chapter (or two)
* (For works of fiction) Questions on developing your characters (Protagonists / Antagonists)

Or bring your writing materials and sit among your fellow writers to get some writing done away from distractions at home.

If you plan on sharing with others stuff to read, bring enough copies for everyone.

This group is for Anyone with a desire to bring their idea to the world in book form. If you've made the pledge "I'm taking this idea all the way to a book and won't let it rot on my hard-drive forever," then this group is for you. The goal of the group is to save the world through our writing.

Lastly, there's no guarantee that by coming to the group your book will be better, get done sooner or that you'll be picked up by a Publisher. But conventional wisdom has that writers' groups have helped many of an author produce better quality books.
