Due to inaccurate reporting by the Boulder Daily Camera and KMGH-Channel 7, City on the Hill Ministries has issued the following statement to clarify the facts.

  1. None of the men involved in the Boulder District Attorney’s investigation attend City on the Hill. One of the men has never attended our church. One of the men has not been associated with City on the Hill for 20 years. One of the men has not attended our church for over eighteen months. Therefore, not one of these men is accountable to City on the Hill. The Church leadership was not involved in the scheme and did not recommend it to the members.
  2. We condemn all get rich quick schemes. We are well aware that financial predators across the nation are trying to lure in unsuspecting victims. A message was given on March 15th, 2009 in order to warn and educate all about this growing danger. “On Guard Against Greed” can be listened to online on our website.
  3. As a Church we are very concerned about all the parties involved in this case. Most of all, we are concerned for the well being of the families that may have fallen victim to a crime. We are also concerned for the families of the accused, as they, too, are victims.

Ms. Vanessa Miller of the Daily Camera claims that she called the church twice, but she left no message requesting a statement before proceeding to publish the March 4th, 2010 story. Mr. Tyler Lopez of KMGH Channel 7 made no phone attempt to contact the church for a statement, but made his way to Boulder to take a picture of the church sign and building for the March 12, 2010 TV report. Their stories unfairly implicate our church. It was reported that the connection of the alleged con men was City on the Hill Church. The Channel 7 report called them men of the church. This was a great injustice to implicate us together with the alleged con men. In order to correct the record, we ask the Daily Camera and KMGH Channel 7 to post this statement along with their website versions of the story.

We rely on and support our elected officials, including the District Attorney, in their mission to protect the people within their jurisdiction and to enforce the laws.

Since 1979, City on the Hill has worked diligently to build and maintain a relationship with the City of Boulder and its residents based on trust and integrity. We will continue to teach, preach, and model honesty, integrity, and sound financial stewardship. Biblical Christianity requires that we offer healing to the injured and a restoration process to the guilty, so that we can all walk in God’s love toward one another.
