Healing. That’s it. A single word to capture what so many of us long for, either for ourselves or for loved ones.
Sickness. There’s another word. Many people ask how can a loving God allow so much sickness (and other evil) in the world. And anyone who is suffering with a malady can tell you how all-consuming sickness can be. Sickness is just a pain. (Sorry, bad pun. Would you allow me one more?) Are you sick and tired of being sick and tired? (OK. That’s all. No more puns.)It’s a good thing we worship the God of the Bible, not the god of human imagination. In fact, the Jesus of the Bible had a relentless approach to illness. Time and time again in the Gospel books of the New Testament, Jesus healed everybody he got his hands on. Matthew’s story explains Jesus work around Galilee.
He also healed people of their diseases and of the bad effects of their bad lives. Word got around the entire Roman province of Syria. People brought anybody with an ailment, whether mental, emotional, or physical. Jesus healed them, one and all. (Matthew 4:24
, The Message)
That was then. This is now… and nothing has changed, except that it seems difficult to get people to actually believe that Jesus still wants everyone to be healed. The Lord God Almighty does want everyone to be healed. Surprise! It’s that simple. God has done his part by providing Jesus Christ as a model of healing ministry, and a provision for our healing (“… by whose stripes you were healed.” I Peter 2:24).
Our part is to believe. It is possible to rely on Jesus’ sacrifice as a first resort for healing. And faith for healing can also be a last resort, when the greatest medical technology and the brightest medical minds cannot fix what hurts you.
We have been studying and practicing this kind of healing faith for years at City on the Hill, and we’re delighted to host a national authority on healing faith, Dr. Sandra Kennedy of Whole Life Ministries in Augusta, GA (http://www.wholelife.org/home.html).
At these meetings, Dr. Kennedy simply teaches what God says in His Word about healing. What happens is much like popping corn. As the uncompromised Word of God goes forth through clear Bible teaching, you can see the faith level begin to rise. Suddenly people begin to shout out "I've got it!" and amazing healings begin to take place. Hundreds of people have reported that they have been healed in these meetings. The number one healing we see is cancer. However, we have seen blind eyes open, deaf ears hear, lame legs walk, leukemia, heart disease, strokes, and many other illness all healed just by the power of hearing and believing God's Word. Many of these medical miracles have been scientifically documented!
Please join us this Thursday and Friday, May 14 -15 for a “Healing Explosion” with Dr. Sandra Kennedy. Meetings are 9:00 a.m. and 7:00 p.m. at City on the Hill Church, 75th and Arapahoe in Boulder. The Friday night 7:00 p.m. meeting will be on the University of Colorado campus at the Glenn Miller Ballroom in the University Memorial Center at Euclid and Broadway.
